FIRST Tech Challenge Season

British Columbia is introducing Leagues for the 2017/18 FIRST Tech Challenge season. It means that your team will get more opportunities to play matches with your robot. All teams are encouraged to participate in League events which will be held in November, January and February. The scores from the League events will carry forward to the British Columbia Championships which will be held in February.

FLL Tournament in Surrey

This endorsed event is open to FIRST LEGO League teams registered with FIRST and will follow all rules for this year’s challenge. Teams will have three robot runs, go through judging (Project, Core Values and Robot Design) and awards will be handed out.

Participating in this event will NOT earn a team a spot in the British Columbia Championships held in February.

Girls Robotics Camp – July 17-21, 2017

Victoria Robotics and St. Margaret’s School are running a LEGO MINDSTORMS Robotics camp where girls will learn skills for
building and programming a robot. Each day campers work in small
groups and use camp equipment to build a different robot to complete
that day’s challenges. The camp will be led by the FIX IT robotics
team, a local team that competes internationally in a robotics
competitions. Great opportunity to learn skills for girls on FIRST
LEGO League teams.

Aila Simpson wins a Dean’s List Award in Houston

In an effort to recognize the leadership and dedication of FIRST’s most outstanding FIRST Tech Challenge students, the Kamen family sponsors an Award for selected top students known as the FIRST Dean’s List. Since its introduction in 2010, the FIRST Dean’s List Award has attracted the attention of prestigious colleges and universities who desire to recruit FIRST Dean’s List students.

British Columbia sent two Dean’s List Finalists to the FIRST Championship in Houston:  Clare Feddema and Aila Simpson.
