It’s Volunteer Appreciation Month and FIRST BC wants to feature some of our amazing volunteers! Aila Simpson is an alumni of FTC 3491 FIX IT.

Aila was on FIRST teams in both Ontario and then BC and is now an Engineering student at the University of Victoria. While on her FTC team, Aila won the prestigious Dean’s List Award at FIRST Championship in 2017. Aila has volunteered in many roles, everything from Head Queuer to MC at events like Kick-off and this year’s Virtual League Wrap-ups.

When asked about volunteering with FIRST, here’s what Aila had to say.

I volunteer with FIRST to give back to a community which gave me so much support and taught me the hard and soft skills involved in engineering. It’s my hope to inspire other young people, especially from typically less represented demographics, to enjoy, pursue, and appreciate the STEM fields, and all they can do for our world, and its inhabitants.
