FOR 30 YEARS, FIRST® HAS INSPIRED MILLIONS OF YOUNG PEOPLE TO REACH NEW HEIGHTS
Project-based, hands-on FIRST programs introduce students to coding, programming, and engineering in an inclusive, creative, and hopeful environment where students work collaboratively to solve a yearly robotics challenge. Explore K-12 programs designed to inspire innovation and help young people build a better future.
This 2019-2020 season, FIRST RISE, powered by Star Wars: Force for Change, is setting out to inspire citizens of the galaxy to work together, strengthening and protecting the Force that binds us and creating a place where collaboration and collective wisdom can elevate new ideas and foster growth. Together, we RISE.
What if you could build a better world? Where would you begin?
More than ever, we must come together to innovate and solve problems. In FIRST, you are part of a thriving community brimming with inspiration, creativity, and hope for a stronger, more sustainable future—one that’s built better together. You have the power to help the cities, towns, and places you call home reach new heights. With the support of the FIRST community, this is your opportunity to lead our future forward—and up.
Kickoff events for the FIRST RISE 2019/2020 season will be held in August and September in Victoria and Vancouver. Dates and location details to follow.
BOOMTOWN BUILD
BUILDING CURIOSITY
FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. challenges teams of children to explore a scientific concept, then build a model and code it to make it move using LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0. FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. teams will use their imagination to create something that makes cities better in BOOMTOWN BUILD.
BOOMTOWN BUILD coming in August, 2019
CITY SHAPER
CREATING INNOVATORS
FIRST® LEGO® League gives students the chance to develop, design, build, and code LEGO® Education SPIKE Prime and MINDSTORMS® EV3 robots to perform autonomous “missions” on a themed playing field and design innovative solutions to a real-world problem inspired by the theme. FIRST® LEGO® League teams will explore city life over time and create new, innovative solutions to improve it for the future in CITY SHAPER.
SKYSTONE
REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
Starting in September, FIRST® Tech Challenge teams of up to 15 students explore the possibilities of STEM through designing, building, programming, and operating robots to play a competition challenge in an alliance format. FIRST® Tech Challenge teams will push forward and up into the skies – and shift the way we think about our place in the galaxy – in SKYSTONE.
The FTC game reveal will be in early September 2019. Kickoff events will be held in Victoria and Vancouver.
INFINITE RECHARGE
POWERING THEIR FUTURE
With limited time and resources, teams of students, supported by adult mentors, build and program robots to perform challenging tasks in alliance with other teams in FIRST® Robotics Competition. FIRST® Robotics Competition teams will work toward building a new metropolis, harnessing renewable sources of energy to power the grid, generate new growth, and keep our community engaged, in INFINITE RECHARGE.
The 2020 FIRST® Robotics Competition season will officially kickoff in January 2020.
